Alejo de Vahía (doc. 1475 - 1515) worked firstly most likely in the Lower Rhine before settling in Spain, where he developed his activity with great success, especially in Castile. His sculptures are very identifiable due to their marked style that can be seen in this San Sebastian: the symmetrical treatment of the hair with looped curls, the bulging eyes with a droopy look, the arching of the fine eyebrows and the broken folds of the perizonium with central junction. For a very similar model, you can see the one preserved in the Frederic Marès museum or the one in the church of San Andrés in Valladolid.
