ENRIQUE MARTINEZ CUBELLS RUIZ (Madrid, 1874 - Málaga, 1947)
"Portrait of a Lady dressed in white"
Oil on canvas
Signed
89 x 60 cm
600 - 650 €

Enrique Martinez Cubells (1874 - 1947) trained alongside his father Salvador Martinez Cubells, a renowned painter and first restorer of the Prado Museum. His affinity for German art led him to live in Munich and travel to other European countries, maturing his own style. He participated in national and international exhibitions and was awarded several times. Although his costumbrist painting with scenes of seasides and ports is perhaps one of his best known works, he also cultivated the genre of portrait just like his father, portraitist of Madrid's high society.

In this way, we find this portrait at auction of a delicate woman that places us in the Belle Epoque period. Her fair skin and her flowing white dress with silver embroidered details bring brightness to the figure that contrasts with the vivid burgundy background.
